How do I find an affordable rental property in Victoria?

It can be particularly difficult to know what’s a reasonable price for renting if you’re new to Victoria (especially if you’ve just arrived from overseas!).

Although we can’t tell you directly how to find a bargain, this article will point you in the right direction to compare prices in different suburbs.

Remember that rental prices vary significantly based on factors such as:

  • The type of property (e.g. apartment, house etc);
  • Size;
  • Location;
  • Local amenities (e.g. public transportation, sports centres etc).

We recommend that you consult real estate websites, property rental platforms, or reach out to local real estate agents to obtain the most accurate and current information on rental prices. These sources regularly update their databases with the latest rental listings and market trends.

Some popular real estate websites that provide rental information include:

  1. Domain (domain.com.au)
  2. Realestate.com.au (realestate.com.au)
  3. Rent (rent.com.au)
  4. Property (property.com.au)

You can also view local Melbourne properties for rent by joining the Facebook group called “Fairy Floss Real Estate”.

These platforms are helpful to search for rentals in specific suburbs, explore property features, and view rental prices (including handy search functions to narrow your search!).
