  • Amplify the social impact of Anika Legal's executive team in service of a world where everyone can access justice, and thrive in safe homes
About Anika Legal

At Anika Legal, we believe everyone deserves a safe and secure home.

Imagine living in a home that made you sick, having to choose between paying rent or eating, or living in constant fear of becoming homeless. That is the reality for most of the 7 million renters in Australia who are denied a safe home.

Anika Legal is a free, non-profit legal service for renters that empowers renters to thrive in safe homes.

Through casework, innovation and systemic advocacy, we support our clients and fight for a fair housing system so that every renter can live in a safe, secure, affordable home that supports their quality of life.

Anika Legal is committed to building a team that is as diverse as the community we serve.

Our team is better with people from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences who work together to impactfully create access to justice. We believe in fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace for people of all gender identities, sexual orientations, cultural and linguistic backgrounds and abilities. We strongly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people, people who are culturally and linguistically diverse, people who are LGBTQIA+, disabled people and people of mature age to apply.

Key responsibilities

You’ll work closely with the CEO to drive thought leadership, advocacy, and strategic execution across the organisation.

  • Acting as a strategic sounding board to the CEO on thought leadership, stakeholder engagement, and organisational management
  • Supporting the creation of content for articles, social media, reports, and advocacy campaigns
  • Researching developments in access to justice, technology, housing, and social innovation
  • Attending board meetings and preparing board minutes
  • Providing administrative support where needed
Who are we looking for?

We're looking for a strategic thinker and creative communicator with a passion for social justice — someone who can turn big ideas into clear, compelling messages that shift hearts, minds, and systems.

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

  • Care deeply about social justice and are excited by the idea of using innovation and tech to achieve it
  • Are adaptable, action-oriented, and enjoy making things happen in a fast-moving, startup-style environment
  • Write clearly and persuasively with an understanding of storytelling, particularly across platforms like LinkedIn, blogs, or email marketing
  • Are organised, reliable, and able to support high-level decision-making — whether that’s by taking board minutes, offering a strategic sounding board, or helping move ideas into action
  • Are comfortable (or keen to learn) using tools like Canva, ChatGPT, Descript, and other generative AI platforms

It’s a bonus if you also:

  • Have 2+ years of full-time professional experience
  • Have experience in marketing, communications, or PR
  • Have experience in the legal assistance, housing, or not-for-profit sectors
  • Have a deep interest in legal tech, systems thinking, or housing

This is a remote volunteer role, so you’ll need to be self-motivated and able to work independently — but you won’t be alone. There’ll be chances to connect socially with the broader Anika team and other volunteers.
